Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa
To apply for this visa, you must:
be aged 55 or youngerhave an offer of, or be working in, a full-time skilled job with an accredited employerhave 6 skilled resident points from your skills and work in New Zealandbe in good healthbe of good characterhave a genuine relationship with your partner and dependent children, if including themmust speak and understand English IELTS 6.5 Current job or job offerYou must be working in a skilled job, or have a job offer for one.
To be considered a skilled job, it must be:
with an accredited employereither in an ANZSCO Level 1 to 3 occupation and paid at or above the median wage, or in an ANZSCO Level 4 to 5 occupation and paid at or above 1.5 times the median wage.full-time andpermanent or fixed-term for at least 12 months, or a contract or continuous contracts for at least 6 months. Skilled resident pointsSkilled resident points are the points you need to be eligible to apply for a Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa.
You need at least 6 skilled resident points from your skills and work in New Zealand.
If you are invited to apply, you will need to provide evidence that you qualify for the points you are claiming.
You can claim:
3 to 6 points from 1 skill category — either your New Zealand occupational registration, qualifications or income, andup to 3 more points from skilled work experience, if required. New Zealand occupational registrationYou can use your occupational registration to claim points if it is on our list of eligible New Zealand occupational registrations. Registrations that require more training are worth more points. You can claim:
6 points — if a minimum of 6 years of experience, training or both are required to gain registration5 points — if a minimum of 5 years of experience, training or both are required to gain registration4 points — if a minimum of 4 years of experience, training or both are required to gain registration3 points — if a minimum of 2 years of experience, training or both are required to gain registration. Claiming points for skilled work experience in New ZealandIf you do not have 6 points from your occupational registration, you can use your skilled work experience in New Zealand to claim more points — you cannot use your qualifications or income to claim more points.
If you are planning to use skilled work experience to claim more points, you can only include skilled work experience you gained after getting your occupational registration.
Evidence of occupational registrationIf you are invited to apply for residence, you will need evidence that you have a New Zealand registration that qualifies for points.
The evidence must show:
the registration licensing or certification authoritythe registration, licence, or certificate name and scope of practice, andthat you meet the 'requirements to claim points' listed for your registration — check the tool for claiming skilled resident points from occupational registration. QualificationYou can use your qualification to claim points if it:
is a New Zealand qualification recognised on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF)has had an International Qualification Assessment (IQA) from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA), oris on the List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment (LQEA). You can claim between 3 to 6 points depending on the highest level of qualification you have.
New Zealand qualifications and international qualifications with a New Zealand equivalentIf you have a New Zealand qualification or your IQA confirms your qualification has a New Zealand equivalent, you can claim:
6 points — for a level 10 Doctoral degree5 points — for a level 9 Master's degree4 points — for a level 8 Bachelor Honour's degree or Postgraduate diploma, or3 points — for a level 8 Postgraduate certificate or level 7 Bachelor's degree.International qualifications without a New Zealand equivalentIf your IQA does not confirm your qualification is equivalent to a New Zealand qualification, but it recognises your qualification on the NZQF, you can still claim:
5 points — for a level 10 qualification4 points — for a level 9 qualification, or3 points — for a level 8 qualification.Non-degree qualificationsYou cannot claim points for a non-degree qualification at level 7 or below. If you do not have 6 points from your qualifications, you can use your skilled work experience in New Zealand to claim more points — you cannot use your occupational registration or income to claim more points.
IncomeYou can use the income from your current New Zealand job or job offer to claim points, if the income from the job is at least 1.5 times the median wage.
You can claim:
6 points — if the job is at 3 times the median wage (currently NZD $94.83 an hour) or more4 points — if the job is at 2 times the median wage (currently NZD $63.22 an hour) or more3 points — if the job is at 1.5 times the median wage (currently NZD $47.41 an hour) or more. Partner and dependent childrenIf you include your partner and dependent children in your application, you must have a genuine relationship with them.You need to provide documents — like marriage and birth certificates — that prove your relationship to your partner and dependent children aged 24 or younger.
